Smash Books

Nora Anne here today with a quick post. Did you get your Smash Book yet?! Not sure what to do with it?! The possibilities are endless you know! I already started my red one full of random memorabilia, cleaned out all my "junk drawers", baskets and bins that are randomly strewn about our home! (yes, I am a nostalgic pack rat of sorts! a collector of all things paper, especially the pieces that have memories attached to them). So, I went through them all and anything worth saving, with a story behind it, I took it and I glued it and I smashed it! I am getting so much de-cluttering done and preserving it all in one place! From birthday cards, to random notes from my mom, to hotel keys, anything and everything ~ it is all being SMASHED!

And I'm having a GREAT.TIME. doing it!

Now for my next Smash book, the green one, one of my online buddies sent me a link to something fun. I am a list maker, always have been, whether I ever look at that list again, I still enjoy making it! So this was the perfect online adventure for me, and it's only $6.00, even better!

Check it out HERE ------->>>>>>>  30 Days of Lists.
Why not join me for 30 Days of Lists?!?! and fill up YOUR Smash book!

Happy Thursday! See you at Paper Wings!

Big Announcement

In June of 2009 my sister and I took ownership of our little Scrapbook store in a quaint mini mall in Tuckerton NJ. There we had the honor of meeting Pat and Lee Thorpe, the owners of One Little Spark, a stamping and card making shop. We formed both a business and personal friendship. We teamed up many times to offer classes and workshops that appealed to scrapbookers and stampers alike and you our customers seemed to love our team approach to both crafts. Sadly, the changes our building was going through made us unable to stay in that location. Our biggest regret was leaving our friends at One Little Spark. Our LBI location has been very good to us. We have made many new friends and enjoyed seeing our "regulars" in our new location as well. However, one consistent sentiment has always been expressed by all of you. "It would be great if you and Pat were together again". What you may not have known is that we felt the same way. So, last month we were very pleased to find a space that was just the right fit for both of our shops. Once again, Paper Wings and One Little Spark will be one stop shopping for you, our customers. Our new shop boasts a large retail space, large separate classroom space, and a space we like to refer to as "The cutting room". There you will have access to our Cricuts, Sizzix, and other die cutting machines! We are so excited to be sharing space once again and bringing you the best of both stamping and scrapping materials all in one spot. The new space is located at 603 Main Street (rt 9) in Tuckerton NJ (next to Conway Auto Parts). This is only the beginning. Be sure to check in often with us both to keep up on everything new we'll have to offer. We do not have a firm date for our grand reopening so for now you can visit each of us in our current locations. We will be posting updates on our progress so you can keep up with the latest developments on our blog, websites, and our Facebook page. For those of you not familiar with One Little Spark, visit their website at www.one-little-spark.com. Thank you all for your continued support of our shop over these past two years. We look forward to seeing you in our new location!
Hugs~ Colleen

Birthday Winner and Iron Orchid Layout

Hi everyone!  Long time no talk.  So sorry we have been MIA but it's always crazy gearing up here for the summer season.  First, I want to thank everyone for the special wishes sent to my little boy on his birthday.  He sat on my lap everyday saying "Mommy, did I get more letters today!"  He was so very excited.  So, without further ado, the winner is Princess Poodle!  Thanks so much and be sure to email us at thegirls@paperwingsnj.com to claim your prize!  Next on the list, one of my new loves, Iron Orchid Designs.  I just love this company because there paper has so much detail and is just like a hot fudge sundae for your eyes!!! The first photo at the top is a layout I made today with there Beloved Line.  That's my mommy up there.  I was missing her extra today and felt the need to involve her in my crafting.  The second project is a 16x20 canvas wall hanging and it features the Beach Cottage line also from Iron Orchid Designs.  This project is going to be a class at our store on June 28th so if your interested, visit the website at http://www.paperwingsnj.com/ and check out the classes section.  If you have the chance, pick up some paper from this company, it is so beautiful! Have a wonderful day!  ~Colleen

Loving My Sew Easy!

This is Nora Anne popping in today! While Colleen is busy hosting the Layout of the Month at the store, I thought I'd share something I made with the AWESOME new Sew Easy heads that she has in stock!
See the cute little banner at the top of the card? Yup, that was made with the Sew Easy! I ran it across my paper strip, stitched, then just cut around it. Easy as that and oh, "sew" fun! (You can also find some of the pretty hand-dyed vintage seam binding at Paper Wings!)

Oh, and while I am here. Do you remember a little while back Colleen mentioned that she would soon be carrying products from Mon Amie Gabby? Well, on the card below I made a flower from the beautiful crepe paper she sells. If you like it, then GREAT, because you will soon be able to make your own with this crepe paper coming soon to Paper Wings!

Enjoy your Sunday! Colleen and I are so excited to be heading to Philly on Tuesday with Pat and Kathy for our Copics Certification class! We'll share about it later in the week!

Happy Birthday to my baby and Giveaway!

So this is what happy looks like. And all courtesy of cupcakes for breakfast! It is my baby boys 4th birthday. He is so super excited! We started his birthday celebration early with a day out with his Auntie (and godmother) Nora Anne, Uncle Neil, and his best pal Lukey. They spent the day on the beach and then mini golf. I joined them for an evening of rides and games at Fantasy Island Amusement park! What an amazing night. Now it's back to Long Beach Island today for pizza and cake at our restaurant with friends and family. I'm so excited. The only thing that would make it better would be to have my Mom here to share the day with us. I'm sure she's looking down on us and sending love and birthday wishes! So how about some wishes from all of you. I'm having yet another birthday wishes giveaway. Leave a comment sending my little Dominick some birthday love and he'll pick one lucky winner to get a New Sew Easy tool plus a large Pennant head! Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!
Happy Saturday everyone and best wishes for an amazing kick off to the 2011 summer season.  We are so excited here at the store because as some of you already know, we are located on beautiful Long Beach Island in NJ.  It is a great little town and the population explodes for the summer season.  So what are your plans for this weekend?  Bar-b-que with the family? Hitting the beach?  Just be sure to have your camera and get great shots of this amazing weather whatever you choose to do.  I do have a little announcement to make.  For the time being, due to lack of interest, I will be suspending the Saturday Challenge.  Thanks to all of you who have participated in the past and my idea is to have it begin again in the early fall.  However, I will be running some monthly blog candy type giveaways so be sure to check back often.  There is so much great product out there right now and with summer CHA coming up, I bet there will be so much more.  We did get the opportunity to meet some great people at the Somerset NJ Scrapbook Expo.  Among them were Dom Mahoney from the Teresa Collins Stampmaker. His demo was amazing and I had no idea what this machine was capable of until seeing it.  You may be seeing "An evening featuring Teresa Collins" at the store sometime soon!!!  Also, just in are the new Sew Easy large piercing heads.  If you haven't seen them yet, scoot over to http://www.weronthenet.com/ to check them out.  They make sewing on your page "Sew Easy"!!!! And how about those Glubers from Cosmo Cricket!  I love them and they are the hot new item at the store.  Even those who are flower making challenged such as myself can make beautiful, hand made flowers to use on layouts, cards, or even hair and clothing accessories.  I love them.  So if you stop by here, take a second to leave us a comment and let us know what of your favorite tools of the trade are, new or old.  Sometimes the old reliables are the best!  Again from us here at Paper Wings, have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and please take a moment to thank a vet for keeping our country the best in the world!  Happy weekend and god bless!

Happy Haunting

I know, I know, we are heading into Memorial Day Weekend and the beach is beckoning, but I couldn't resist sharing the Halloween kit Colleen made the other day. Isn't it so FUN!?!?!?!

Stop by Paper Wings if you are in the LBI area and see what other goodies are brewing!!!

Belated Saturday Challenge~Use Your Tools!

Hi Everyone! Sorry for the late posting of the challenge, we were busy yesterday spending time with our families just in case the world was ending....LOL!
The challenge was handed over to Audrey this week, so here is her description and below you will see some photos of her sample. If you live locally, you MUST stop in and see this layout in person, the photos just don't do it justice!

Before you go on though, we want to say a special thank you to Janet, who is a very talented member of our Design Team. She entered our challenge last week with a gorgeous project along with a very touching, heartwrenching story. She lost her mom and we want to extend our sincerest condolences during such a sad time. Please take a moment to take a look at her beautiful bird house.

And now here is Audrey's post and challenge for this week (pay special attention to the fabulous flower she made using ribbon and Glubers that are now in stock at Paper Wings:

Hi there!  When I gave Colleen my design team project this week, using Echo Park Springtime, I told her that I had gone a bit crazy using some of my new toys....I mean, tools, on the page.  I used my new Sew-Easy piercing tool for the stitched border, a regular piercer for the embroidery,  two new Martha Stewart punches for the frame and the picket fence, a new EK Success punch for the floral border, my new Tim Holtz tiny attacher stapler and the new Glubers for the ribbon flower.  I also used my trusty paper trimmer with a scallop blade for one of the borders and decorative edge scissors for another, as well as my dusty old Fastenator to staple the ribbon for my bow, and of course, a needle and embroidery floss.  So, here's your challenge:  Use as many toys, I mean TOOLS, as you can on your next page.  They can be new or old, any item that you can think of to help you create your page...the more the merrier!

Design Team Layout

I just had to share this beautiful layout done by Design Team member, Sandi. Here is a description of the layout in Sandi's words:
"On this layout I used several of the new Webster's line along with their peach bloomers. I added pearls & flowers from my stash, platinum stickles, a frame from tattered angels which was distressed with Tim holtz's inks & I sprayed the whole thing with marshmallow glimmer mist which gives it all a bit of a sparkle. The image is an enlargement of an antique post card I got off of eBay."j

Leave Sandi some love in the comments section!
Thanks for stopping by :)

Another layout of the month at Paper Wings

Hi all. So today was our L.O.M at PaperWings (check the website for description www.paperwingsnj.com). We had so much fun. Today's "tool of the month" was Tim Holtz's new Distress Stains ( love em!). I'll have to post the example project that I did. Anyway, I had so much fun with our ladies who have been dubbed "The Jackson Five" ( 5 crafty women who live in Jackson NJ). So the point of my babbling is this: DISTRESS STAINS ARE AWESOME!!!! If you haven't tried them do so. If you can't find them near you, email us, we ship anywhere. What I'm saying is get some of these. I think Tim has really out done himself. Also, just 2 hours until the blog candy entries end. I cant wait to choose our winner. Tune in tomorrow. That's all for now. Have a wonderful evening and a relaxing week. ~Colleen

Saturday Challenge

Good Saturday morning to you! Welcome back for another challenge. I made this card with the fabulous new Distress Stains by Tim Holtz. These are SO much fun to play with! I also used Distress Ink Pads on the card as well, they coordinate so well together. The stamps are from our friend Pat at One Little Spark and this is one of the cards we did at her Extravaganza last week.

So, our challenge for you this week is to make a layout, card or project using Distress Stains (if you have them already), Distress Inks, or Distress Embossing Powder. Please leave a comment below with a link to your project! One lucky winner will be selected as random to win one of the new Distress Stains that are in stock at Paper Wings.
Have a great weekend!
